Integrated at Work (IAW) was excited to help create this beautiful space for Aetna’s marketing and communications team.

IAW selected and sourced products from a variety of manufacturers to support the “resimercial” (residential-commercial) design vision. Examples include glazing and entryway doors by Oldcastle; mirrors from Division 9, Restoration Hardware, and Wayfair; and whiteboards from Claridge. Sleek, Haworth Enclose Frameless Glass demountable walls allow natural light to flood the space.

The project was completed within an aggressive schedule due to the great working partnership among IAW, the GC team (Suffolk), and the installation team (Johnson & Goglia).

Noteworthy: IAW installed just under 1,000 LF (exactly 985 LF) of demountable walls and installed these walls on top of 56,865 SF of raised access flooring throughout the entire space.

Hospitality/Retail

Integrated at Work (IAW) completed a multi-level raised access flooring system for luxury entertainment venue Big Night Live. The project included special acoustical requirements that were designed to isolate the significant live music sounds within the envelope of space without disrupting adjacent tenants.  To achieve this unique requirement, IAW collaborated with the general contractor, architect, and acoustical consultant to come up with the right solution.  Coordination of the millwork, ramps, and steps was very difficult.

Two types of TecCrete raised access flooring were required to complete the multi-tiered project: a standard 1,250-pound system for general foot traffic and a 2,500-pound system for an area that included a heavy-traffic staging path.  To accommodate the acoustical needs, IAW recommended integrating sound isolators at the base of the pedestal system to prevent the transfer of sound to the tenant space below.

Integrated at Work (IAW) installed both a sound masking system (38,200 SF) and a raised flooring system (6,100 SF) as part of Cape Cod 5’s new banking center and headquarters built to accommodate 300+ employees.

After reviewing the space and speech privacy requirements, IAW provided a layout optimizing the correct level of ambient sound for space. Additionally, IAW incorporated a paging system into the sound masking system to provide cost savings to the client versus providing each system separately.

Cape Cod 5’s project requirements included a need for flexibility and accessible power and data locations in the large assembly room.  The TecCrete raised flooring offered a great solution that offered a solid walking sensation along with the ultimate flexibility.

Implementing green design and building features were a priority. Cape Cod 5’s project achieved LEED Gold certification.

Integrated at Work delivered a raised access flooring system as the first phase of Decipera Pharmaceuticals’ expansion project. The Tecrete raised floor system elevated a separate workspace in the center of the office to allow for increased privacy. IAW specified 7,800 SF of the TecCrete 1250 panel system which provides the rigidity and stability to meet the needs of this demanding and flexible workspace.

IAW worked simultaneously under a fast-track schedule with the trades and contractors on site. Though the site was not fully built-out, IAW successfully prepared the railing production and flooring installation. Since the construction schedule dictated installation in phases, IAW was able to visualize the remaining installation by calculating and analyzing exactly how much material was needed. Additionally, our team installed the RAF and railing system without affecting furniture installation.

A unique aspect of this project was a back-lit through integrated as part of the raised floor system.  IAW coordinated this detail with the architect, general contractor, and lighting contractor to achieve the desired lighting effect

Integrated at Work (IAW) recently completed a unique and dynamic installation project with Columbia Construction using TecCrete raised flooring. The project goal was to redevelop an uninhabitable basement space and retro-fit the new space with bathrooms, showers, and employee bike storage for the new occupant – a high-profile, online retail giant.

Located in a building originally developed in 1902 as part of the NECCO factory complex in Fort Point, Boston, the project site proved challenging from the get-go. General Manager, David Atwood, says that the existing conditions resembled a skateboarding park with extreme slopes, slab buckles, and overall severe unlevelness.

Atwood himself had never seen a space quite like this but assured the team that TecCrete raised flooring was the right solution for the job. The pedestal and concrete paneling system of raised flooring absorbs extreme sub-floor conditions and has the flexibility necessary to achieve laser-levelness. Not only does it allow for variable height adjustments for existing conditions and new plumbing, but it also offers unique characteristics that do not exist in new construction. Uniformly flat and bone-dry, TecCrete installs ready for tile adherence.

Integrated at Work (IAW) continues to work on the ever-expanding Ginkgo Bioworks space within The Innovation and Design Building in Boston’s Seaport. Ginkgo Bioworks designs custom microbes for customers across multiple markets, developing new organisms that replace technology with biology.

Studio TROIKA developed a master plan for the Ginkgo Bio HQ space to include four phases over three years to keep pace with the company’s rapid growth. Each phase has been designed to continuously evolve to meet changing demands across applications and adapt to new technological advancements. Flexibility and reconfigurable design being key elements in allowing for the space to develop while offering the ability to safely work on very different projects in parallel.

Responding to the unique demands of this biotech environment, IAW furnished and installed approximately 20,000 SF of TecCrete raised access flooring. The fundamental value of a raised floor is that mechanical and electrical services can be easily routed under the elevated surface. At Ginkgo Bio, HVAC, electrical, and piping for the labs are all neatly and safely contained below the flooring panels which can be quickly and easily removed to accommodate anything from wiring updates to site reconfiguration.

According to Rich Lawless, IAW Field Supervisor, the original concrete slab floor varied in eveness about 3 – 4” so using RAF offered additional value of leveling while also increasing sight lines of the Boston waterfront.

Hospitality/Retail

Integrated at Work (IAW) completed a raised access floor project for The Social Register, a restaurant within the A Loft Boston Seaport Hotel. Located on the first floor of the 13-story hotel, the upscale restaurant and lounge offers two bar areas, seating for 200, and is situated just across the street from the Seaport’s popular outdoor summer space, Lawn on D.

IAW furnished and installed over 5,000 square feet of TecCrete 1250 Bare Concrete 1” thick panels.  With a finished floor height of 18” off depressed concrete slab, our raised flooring system was the perfect solution for increasing sightlines and accommodating the plumbing for this hospitality space.

For this fashionable and high-performance space, IAW recommended using a decorative floor finish application especially designed for heavy traffic commercial use.  Wicanders’ integrated cork underlay serves several purposes: (1) reinforces thermal and acoustic properties, resulting in a silent environment and important energy cost savings; (2) provides superior comfort, noise reduction and warmth; and (3) achieves a decorative, natural veneer that authentically complements the vibe of the space.

AT&T recently underwent a brand evolution including a new expression of the company’s retail stores.  According to the architect, CallisonRTKL, AT&T’s current mission is to humanize the technology shopping experience, so customers naturally approach and engage with their latest products and services. Integrated Interiors (II) was selected to help bring this vision to life for the flagship store in Boston’s Back Bay, as well as several other locations in Massachusetts.

For AT&T Back Bay, II procured and installed over 5,000 SF of TecCrete raised access flooring. TecCrete offers several multifaceted solutions for retail space. The concrete and steel composite panels and pedestal system create a solid sensation underfoot for a very walkable surface for customers. Highly versatile, TecCrete panels allow for a wide variety of flooring applications and finishes.  For AT&T the design team chose a combination of bare panels finished with field-applied clear stain or panels covered with carpet tiles. The panels with carpet were installed at a subtly depressed height creating a flush, smooth transition between the mixed materials, offering a modern look and feel, and providing an additional layer of comfort for standing customers.

Unique challenges for this job included delivery and install during a wicked nor’ester, and finishing the project in time for the Boston marathon – II was successful on both!
